Magical Realism – Waking to the Dream
There’s no such a thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.
– Bill Hicks, American Comedian
What happens if an event, person or thing from your dream state slips through the crevices of time and space and enters your mundane Earthly reality? We usually call this magic or miraculous. Well, what if your life is backwards, your actual waking state is a dream, and what’s actually slipping through this cosmic crack is a piece of reality.
This is why I love the literary genre of magical realism. The suspension of reality and the boundaries of ordinary consciousness are fluid. If you’ve ever read one of my favorite novels One Hundred Years of Solitude by the famous Latin American author and Nobel laureate Gabriel Garcia Marquez, you’ll experience the essence of magical realism firsthand.
It’s the suspension of reality where magical or supernatural phenomena enter into real-world or mundane settings that makes anything possible. It’s the literary language of the soul, infinite, timeless and boundless.

A Land of Magic
What makes magical realism so influential in Latin American literature speaks to the cultural consciousness of the people and what draws me to this Land of Magic. I will be embarking on this journey next week! I can hardly wait…
I am certain the next part of my soul journey is hiding in Guatemala. I wholeheartedly welcome the Magic that will slip between the crevices of ordinary reality and awaken me to even deeper truths.
Every culture holds its mystique. South America calls to me in a big way… It’s waking to my dreams and paying attention. I am waiting for them to greet me and re-discover myself in even deeper ways. Inquiry and dreaming attunes us to the energetic field of that which wants to happen.

Our dreams are placed in our hearts for us to trust, fulfill them and wake up to our deepest desires. This is the Magic of life. Living in the chaos and turmoil of our current world has made these deeper insights nearly impossible.
Our dreams hold the potential of what is possible. Keep awake to your dreams. Dream yourself awake! That’s where I’m going…
I’d like to introduce you to the teacher of my next soul adventure in Guatemala. Ernesto Ortiz, a shaman and healer. I’ll tell you about him in my next blog, I am so excited to meet him and be in his presence. I’m waiting for magical realism to become my waking reality, a conscious expansion of everyday life…
